Evaluating the potential of carbonate rocks for carbon capture and storage (CCS) offshore Nova Scotia

The primary objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of the Upper Jurassic carbonate rocks of the Abenaki Formation in the Scotian Basin, offshore Nova Scotia, as a medium for carbon capture and storage (CCS). The study aims to assess the geochemical constraints of interactions, storage capacity, and long-term stability of CO2 in carbonate formations. The work will be carried out by an MSc student at the University of Manitoba, under the supervision of Dr. Ricardo L. Silva and Prof. Grant Wach (from Dalhousie University).

Interested? Please email Dr. Silva (ricardo.silva@umanitoba.ca).
