Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

PaleoSed+ is strongly committed to upholding the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in our practices at the University of Manitoba and beyond. We acknowledge that historic systems designed to keep underrepresented groups from participating in science have left many barriers that remain in place today, and we are committed to dismantling those barriers.

We are a group that does not discriminate based on race, skin colour, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, body size or appearance, age, religion, culture, caste, socioeconomic status, citizenship status or country of origin, or language. PaleoSed+ will not tolerate discrimination, bullying, harassment, or coercive behaviour by or towards our members and we consider these actions to constitute scientific misconduct.

We understand that science is conducted by people, and that new perspectives in science come from people with varied lived experiences. DEIA principles are necessary not only to foster a respectful working environment, but to conduct new and rigorous science from diverse perspectives and collaborations within that environment. PaleoSed+ is committed to ensuring we do not discriminate when offering resources to students, faculty, and staff members in terms of conference funding allocation, project approval, outreach opportunities, and other opportunities as they arise.

The University of Manitoba campuses and research spaces are located on original lands of Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anisininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Dene and Inuit, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of Reconciliation and collaboration.
